Making Application

appsmainAh, the meat of the SCORM Cloud experience – it’s all in the apps. These are what let you connect with learners all over the internet and a big part of what makes using SCORM Cloud so cool. Within the apps section you see the list of where you have already connected and have the ability to add more apps and manage your secret keys. (There’s a lot of really techy stuff going on on this page. Most of the time you’ll never need to mess with it, but here’s the lowdown for when you do.)

apps-editClick edit to change the basic information about an app – the name and whether it is realm aware or unaware. (And what does that mean? Pretty much whether this specific app communicates with the other apps in your realm – your SCORM Cloud world. If you make the app aware, all the data from that app will be collected with the other apps in your history and reports.)

At the bottom of the apps list, you’ll see the option to add another application to the list. Pick a name, decide how it relates to your realm, submit and you’re good. A secret key will be automatically generated for your app, although you have the option to edit, add and delete keys for each app_id. You’ll need the key and app identifier for use out on the web wherever you’re planning to make use of SCORM Cloud. (If you’re just using SCORM Cloud for testing or launching training without a separate service, you don’t need to worry about this part.)

Click over on “Show App Id” on the right side of the screen and it’ll expand the entry. Now you can add a secret key, calling it whatever makes sense to you and set it as active or disabled. You can change either the name or status at any time just by clicking the little pencil. This is useful if your secret key is compromised and you need to change it. Create a new key, make the changes in your application, then come back and delete the old key.
